Second football ministry conference planned

Representatives from most of the UK based football ministries met in Northants recently for the first Football Ministry Conference.

The aim of the conference was to ensure Christian football fans are aware of the resources available, to introduce delegates to other like-minded people for networking and support, and improve evangelism through football.

David Oakley of Ambassadors in Sport outlined the biblical basis for football ministry and small groups discussed outreach successes and challenges, plans for the 2010 World Cup, lessons learnt and how to share the Good News through football.

Keith Hammond from Christians in Football discussed overseas tours, Mark Anderson from Kick London shared how schools work leads to weekend football academies with Gospel input and the work of the club chaplain was outlined by Charlton FC chaplain Matt Baker.

Most delegates agreed that the biggest needs are resources, support and encouragement in the mission field and that these network conferences greatly help share good practice and develop a support network.

The next conference will take place from 14-16 May at the Frontier Centre, Northants where delegates will also watch the FA Cup Final. Contact Mark Blythe for details.
