Sharing the Christian faith through words and action
Church Army is a mission-focused community of people who are transforming lives and communities through the work of Evangelists, staff and supporters.
We are committed to sharing the Christian faith through words and action in a variety of contexts across the United Kingdom and Ireland. This includes working with the elderly, the homeless person, those living on deprived housing estates, young people, children, and many more.
Through our work, thousands of people are reached with the gospel each year and churches equipped and inspired to do mission for themselves.
We also have more than 12 Centres of Mission nationwide where teams of Evangelists work with people who have little or no experience of church, building Christian community and developing new forms of church.
For example, our Evangelists at the Southampton Centre of Mission live and work on the deprived Weston housing estate where they engage with the community through an allotment project (left), home decoration and furniture service, and lunch clubs. Through these projects the team have been able to set up a regular Christian gathering on the estate and Bible study groups in people’s homes.
Training and resourcing is also a priority for us, and our four-year Mission-Based Training Course provides people with the opportunity to train as an Evangelist. Each trainee is based at one of our Centres of Mission and works alongside other Evangelists receiving coaching and supervision. They then take part in six classroom-based residential trips each year along with their own academic studies.
Alongside this, we also run Xplore, a gap-year progamme for adults aged 18 to 25 who want to take part in mission in Romania, the UK and Ireland.
Finally, in 2011 we moved into our new home in Sheffield – The Wilson Carlile Centre. A place where evangelism is researched, taught, supported and practised. It is a place of welcome and hospitality and includes a café, theological library, chapel and 30-bed conference centre, which are all open to the public.
