CPO stores Girls' Brigade uniforms and company resources, takes orders and sends them out to local groups
The Girls’ Brigade England & Wales
Girls’ Brigade (GB) is a radical ministry that meets the needs of girls and young women.
The uniformed, membership organisation specialises in working with churches to provide fun and inspiring local groups (known as companies) where girls and young women, aged four to 18 and from all cultures, can belong, achieve and discover Jesus!
They’re encouraged to engage in a variety of fun and challenging activities that develop their skills and enable them to investigate Christian faith.
GB’s holistic programme covers spiritual, physical, educational and service themes. It also enables girls and young women (primarily) to gain various awards in celebration of their achievements.
Age groups
GB operates in four age groups:
n:vestigate with Explorers – for ages five to eight
n:gage with Juniors – for ages seven to 11
n:counta with Seniors – for ages 10 to 14
And n:spire with Brigaders – for ages 13 plus.
Leadership
GB companies (groups) are led by volunteers. At GB all leaders are resourced with an excellent training programme.
Young women from the age of 14 can participate in Young Leader Training courses, providing a progression in training that equips them to lead younger girls and their peers.
The organisation also provides various modular-style Adult Leader Training courses for those over the age of 18.
Other awards
Those involved in the n:counta and n:spire programmes are also encouraged to participate in GB’s Queen’s Award, preparing them for wider experiences of citizenship and service.
GB is also one of the oldest operating authorities for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Opportunities
As an international organisation, GB is able to provide a variety of exciting opportunities for its members.
Recently young leaders have volunteered to support youth and children’s work in Romania and Kosova. In addition to this, participation is encouraged through provision of both local and national events.
This gives young women the opportunity to take significant leadership roles, as well as having a voice that shapes the future of the organisation. To this end, places are reserved on GB’s national trustee board for representatives under the age of 30.
