In 2027 it will be 1400 years since Edwin, King of Northumbria (an area covering the North of England) bravely turned his back on paganism and chose to follow Christ. The teaching, spirituality, and evangelism of the Church which emerged are relevant, powerful, and inspirational for us today. That is why ‘Faith in the North’ is encouraging a new wave of prayer, sharing stories of faith, and church planting. Easy-to-use resources are being created for churches and schools to help people of all ages and backgrounds explore faith for themselves. See faithinthenorth.org

Many people will know the Explore prayer cards, as more than three million have gone out through churches, schools, hospitals (and even pubs and police stations!) in the last three years. A special set of cards, drawing on Anglo-Saxon spirituality, has just been produced for Faith in the North. These new resources are for all churches wanting to be ‘pilgrim places’- spaces for reflection and outreach to visitors and local communities.
These six beautifully produced prayer cards use key themes from Anglo-Saxon spirituality to offer a fresh approach to engaging with God. Each card contains an attractive image, a relevant Bible verse, a short explanation of the Christian faith which changed this land, and a simple prayer. They also provide a link to the Faith in the North website to encourage further exploration.
Anglo-Saxon Christians faced challenges surprisingly like our own. Life was tough and uncertain; wars and pandemics often brought loss, grief, pain, and loneliness. They needed to know that they were not alone, and how to find a way through day by day. That’s why their deep trust in God’s help on their pilgrim-journey through life can encourage and inspire people today.
Generous funding means we can offer 1500 free starter packs of 300 cards for a contribution of £5.99 towards postage and packing. To order, see below...
