Jesus was asked if he was the Messiah, but knowing they would not believe the truth, he told the council of elders to make up their own minds. They had huge responsibility to judge if he was guilty of calling himself God, something that required the death penalty.

At daybreak all the elders of the people assembled,
including the leading priests and the teachers of religious
