The stumbling walk up to Golgotha’s hill through a hostile crowd was incredibly difficult for Jesus, and he falls down. A man from Cyrene named Simon is asked by the Roman soldiers to carry the Cross, which mercifully he does.
Wording on the poster:
A passerby named Simon, who was from Cyrene,
was coming in from the countryside just then, and
the soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross.
(Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.)
