THE CROSS – THE CENTRE OF HISTORY
On the face of it, events more than 2000 years ago in the Middle East look like they have little relevance for us today.
It’s understandable if sometimes the accounts of the trial, death and resurrection of Jesus seem like ancient history.
Yet these historic events remain at the heart of the Christian faith. Why? Because they are personal – and their impact echoes down the centuries.
The cross marks a pivotal moment in human history: the point at which the relationship between the human race and its Creator underwent a dramatic change.
Until Jesus was born, you could only be right with God by keeping the Jewish laws and following the commandments. And all fell short.
By sending his son Jesus to be born as a baby, live among us and die an innocent death on a cross, God offered a new beginning for anyone and everyone willing to accept it.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3: 16)
Jesus’ death on the cross and return to life was for each one of us, and means Easter can be a joyful celebration of the life God wants each of us to live. God’s love really is for you.
No other event in human history has had such an impact, changing millions and millions of lives in the last 2000 years. It can change yours, too.
