Inside this tract are the following words:
There are few occasions more joyful than the safe arrival of a new baby. Months (sometimes years) of waiting, an agonising few hours (sometimes days) of labour, and then suddenly: a tiny person has arrived – a perfect package of potential. The news goes out far and wide via Whatsapp, text, Facebook and Instagram. We pause and celebrate. Great joy indeed!
Jesus’ birth was not announced over social media of course. But it was announced, albeit by an unusual herald and to an unlikely audience. An angel choir brought the news to some of the least-valued in society: a bunch of shepherds.
The shepherds received news of Jesus’ birth with terror at first. Most of us would have responded with terror too, on seeing angels and the glory of the Lord lighting up the night sky like an atomic explosion. But the angelic announcement was ‘good news of great joy’: the safe arrival of a new baby!
The joy of Jesus’ birth was greater than a regular birth though, because this was The One, the long-awaited saviour. He had come to make peace between people and God, offering all who believed in him a forever-life – forgiven and rescued from death.
Don’t let another Christmas pass you by without knowing the joy Jesus can bring you.
