1. LORD
The most frequently used
title for Jesus in the New
Testament, this name denotes
his authority and power.
2. SAVIOUR
Jesus came to save the world
from sin and death.
3. MESSIAH
The name of the deliverer of
the Jewish nation prophesied
in the Hebrew Bible.
4. THE VINE
Jesus called himself ‘the Vine’ at the
last supper to show his disciples how
dependent on him they should be –
like branches.
5. THE WAY
Through Jesus, we know God. He is
the Way to forgiveness, restoration and
eternal life.
6. THE TRUTH
Jesus is Truth in a person.
7. THE LIFE
In Jesus we find life in all its fullness,
a life that never ends.
8. IMMANUEL
A Hebrew word meaning ‘God
with Us.’
9. REDEEMER
Jesus is the one who took the
punishment for our sin. He has bought
back our lives.
10. THE ROCK
Many Psalms refer to God as ‘the
Rock.’ Centuries later, Jesus would
give this title to Peter, who he
commissioned to build the church.
11. THE WORD
The gospel of John refers to Jesus as
‘the Word’ – the Word through whom
creation was made.
12. SON OF GOD
This is what the voice from heaven
called Jesus at his baptism.
13. COUNSELLOR
One of the names from Isaiah’s
prophecy of a Messiah (9:6). Speaks of
his wisdom and kindness.
14. LAMB OF GOD
Lambs were used in sacrifice because
of their white coats and innocence.
Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, laid
down for the sake of the world.
15. HIGH PRIEST
The High Priest was the only one
allowed to enter the most sacred part
of the temple, ‘the Holy of Holies’ to
make atonement for the sins of the
people. Jesus now intercedes for us
before God.
16. ANOINTED ONE
Anointing signifies being set apart and
chosen for a specific role or task. Jesus
was anointed by God to be our saviour.
17. LIVING WATER
Jesus told a woman he met at a well
if she drank from him she would never
be thirsty. Water is the source of life.
18. MORNING STAR
When Venus rises, the sun is about to
follow. The birth of Jesus heralded the
coming of the Kingdom of God.
19. KING OF KINGS
Jesus is more powerful than any
royalty at any time in history.
20. LORD OF LORDS
There are many with power and authority
but Jesus rules over all of them.
21. LION OF JUDAH
The lion was the symbol of the
Israelite tribe of Judah. This name is
given to Jesus in Revelation.
22. GOOD SHEPHERD
‘A good shepherd lays down his life for
his sheep.’ John 10:11
23. PRINCE OF PEACE
Jesus brought peace between God
and humankind.
24. THE RESURRECTION
One who was raised from the dead
and lives to give life to all who believe
in him.
25. JESUS
The name Gabriel gave to Mary for her
baby son. It means ‘to save, to deliver.’
