Who do you follow?
Are you a football fan? Who’s your team?
If you’re into athletics, who’s your favourite athlete?
Maybe you’re a celeb spotter, scouring the magazines and newspapers for the latest story on your favourite fi lm star or singer.
Or someone who loves social media like Twitter. Checking out the trivia, comments and opinions of those in the public eye. Who do YOU follow?
It’s a good question to ask about life, too.
Our influences are many and varied, of course. Our parents. Our friends. People at work we look up to. Public figures we find inspirational – or great role models.
Sometimes we admire pioneers – people who blaze a trail where none have gone before. Great inventors like Galileo, or Apple founder Steve Jobs.
Maybe it’s an ancestor or someone in your extended family whose values and achievements ring true to you.
In ancient history, torch bearers were oft en leaders – inspirational figures who led the people into battle, or who guided them in the dark to a place of safety.
They were seen as trustworthy, heroic and awe-inspiring: those who others were glad to follow.
Christians believe Jesus is much more than just a dusty figure from history, who called disciples to follow him, but someone who is alive today.
They believe that not only is he rock-solid trustworthy, he is also someone who helps each individual who entrusts him with their life to discover their true potential.
He is a guide who knows the way to a future filled with hope.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
